FAQs

How do I pay for my canal cruise holiday?

We offer a safe, secure digital environment with the option to either pay by direct bank deposit, or online through our website.

What if I need to change the dates of my holiday?

We require two months notice if you need to change the date of your booking. Naturally we will endeavour to accommodate any requests, but they will be subject to availability and dependent on the season and type of vessel required.

Canal du Midi sounds amazing. What other waterways in France can I cruise?

We’re continually expanding our cruise itineraries and destinations. Check back regularly to see what other cruise experiences we’ve added across other regions and rivers of France including Burgundy, Alsace & Lorraine, Loire Valley, Gascony, Bordeaux, Champagne, Paris and Picardy.

Have you seen the barges yourself?

Yes, we have. In fact, all the barges available through Luxury Canal Cruising France have been handpicked by Directors Leigh and Kristie Kaighin, who have been aboard every vessel for a personal inspection, and to meet the crew.

Can you provide an example of a menu or wine list?

You’ll eat like royalty onboard! A sample of what’s on offer could include provincial specialties such as Noisette d’Agneau en Croûte de Sel avec Sauce Romari; Ragout de Calamars “Provençàle,” Entrecôte de Bazas à la Bordelaise; Confit de Canard et Son Jus au Thym; Foie Gras Poélé Déglacé au Vin de Figues; Filet de Truite au Beurre Blanc; and Gâteau Basque.

Cuisine is accompanied by a well-stocked cellar selection of regional wines: Domaine de Nalys; Châteauneuf du Pape; Château Haut Gléo; Corbières; Domaine Corsin; Pouilly Fuissé; Domaine Vacheron, Sancerre; Château Les Ollieux Romanis; Domaine Alquier; Faugères; Château de Gourgazau; Minervois La Livinière

Morning and afternoon tea is a delightful experience featuring indulgent baked treats, fresh fruit, or regional cheese boards.

Are special dietary requirements catered for?

Absolutely. In the lead up to your holiday you’ll be provided with a Food Preference Form where you can indicate any special dietary requirements or preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or list any food allergies or intolerances.

What does the all-inclusive package include?

Fine dining awaits you at every meal. With menus designed to showcase the freshest, seasonal produce of the region, accompanied by local matching wines, onboard dining is a sensory celebration of your cruising experience. You’ll enjoy three gourmet meals per day, with additional culinary treats such as morning and afternoon tea, or evening canapés, cocktails and aperitifs, provided by attentive silver-service calibre hosts.

Do the Captain and crew speak English?

Yes, it’s a prerequisite of Luxury Canal Cruising France that every team member from Captain, through to crew members and tour guides for day excursions can communicate in fluent English.

What is the duration of the cruise?

We offer a choice of seven or ten day cruises following a base itinerary specifically tailored to introduce you to the wonders and highlights of the region by way of a well-planned route supplemented by day trips and excursions to villages, vineyards, and historical sites.

Will someone be there to greet us at the beginning of our cruise?

Yes. Upon arrival in the region and commencement of your voyage, you will be collected by a Guest Host and transferred to where your hotel barge is moored. You can expect the same personalised level of service throughout the duration of your cruise.

When is the best time to take a canal cruise in France?

The optimal time to experience the best of the region’s natural assets and enjoy the warmer climate is April through to October. Long days and warm nights can be expected throughout summer (June – August) to maximise your outdoor and deck time, however France is spectacular in every season.
